Best Room Under $50K: PranaFidelity<\/strong><\/h3>\n

PranaFidelity<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is a small company from Denver, CO that\u00a0designs and manufactures loudspeakers, amplifiers, and pre-amplifiers. Steve Norber is the founder, and he is also their head designer. If you are not familiar\u00a0with Steve, he was a founding partner of EDGE Electronics.<\/p>\n

The room featured their\u00a0Bhava speakers<\/strong>\u00a0that sell for $4,950 without stands. The Bhava speakers were driven by their own\u00a0puna\/ma amps<\/strong>\u00a0at $8,950 and their\u00a0puna\/ca preamp<\/strong>with phono for $9,950. The vinyl source was the new\u00a0Merrill-Williams<\/a>\u00a0R.E.A.L 101.3<\/strong>\u00a0at $7,995 with a\u00a0Helius Designs<\/a>\u00a0Omega tonearm<\/strong>\u00a0for $3,695 and a\u00a0Kiseki<\/a>\u00a0Purple Heart N.S. cartridge<\/strong>\u00a0at $3,500. The digital source was an\u00a0EAR Acute Classic CD<\/strong>\u00a0Player (retail price: $6,095), provided by Dan Meinwald, the EAR USA distributor\u2013who distributes, also, the Merrill-Williams turntable and Helius Designs tonearms.<\/p>\n

The only thing in this room that I was really familiar\u00a0with was the turntable setup. I have no idea why I\u2019m not more familiar\u00a0with the\u00a0PranaFidelity<\/strong>\u00a0gear because it was incredibly musical. The\u00a0Bhava speakers<\/strong>\u00a0are a two-way symmetrical array that uses two six-inch woofers and a single 1\u00bc-inch tweeter.\u00a0According to Steve, the Bhava has a largely flat 8-ohm impedance and 89.5dB sensitivity, so practically any amp around 20 watts or more can drive them easily. This is a monitor speaker that truly sounds like a floor-stander. The sound was refined and focused with great dynamics and micro-dynamics. I was also impressed with this turntable setup.<\/p>\n
